Our Practice

Dr. Mitchell Shulkin, O.D.

I have always wanted to be an Optometrist since I was in 7th grade, I know, it's a bit out of the ordinary. I was very goal oriented and it really helped shape my life. I graduated from Kearny High School in San Diego (Go Komets!!!). Attended UCSD for 2 years then transferred to UC Berkeley (GO BEARS!!!) and graduated with a degree in Mathematics for teachers (Plan B!)  I got accepted to the CU Berkeley school of Optometry and graduated with Doctor of Optometry degree (Plan A).  I started working at various offices to get a feel for the profession - even worked at Pearle VisionCare. Ultimately I knew I wanted to be my own boss and run my own practice.  I opened North County Optometry in 1990 with a brand new office and no patients!  Over 20 years later, we have over 10,000 patients and I still love what I do. We are a traditional family practice with an easy going atmosphere and we try to have fun at work.

I have 3 grown sons. Jonathon, Dustin and Grant that I am very proud of.  No, they do not want to follow in their dear old dad's footsteps, but they are good boys and I'm sure will succeed it whatever they do!  I love to mountain bike and watch football (Go Chargers! - yes season ticket holder and tailgater!) and a long-time Laker fan. (My boys are Bronco, Raider and Celtic fans- where did I go wrong...haha) I have been a member of the  Carmel Mountain Ranch Town Council, Past President of Carmel Mountain Ranch Lions Club, coach for RP Pop Warner and RP basketball.
